The Bitch is Back

I’ve been away from this site / blog for a while, but I intend to change that. I should probably explain why I’ve been gone, though; not that it really matters. Absent is absent, right?

Anyway, the reason for my absence is – quite simply – my health, or lack thereof. Since last, I’ve been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, and also started on medication for my other ailments, namely Bipolar Disorder.

[Insert lame pun about tortured artist here.]

The fibromyalgia causes chronic pain, and chronic fatigue; I’m coping with it – but on occasion I have bad days where I’m pretty much confined to my bed due to severe pain and fatigue. There’s not a whole lot I can do about it, aside from pain management and rest. Creative endeavors have therefore taken a back seat as of late, as I’ve barely had the energy to get through doctor’s appointments and therapy sessions the past couple of years.

The Bipolar Disorder has been acting up, and I recently elected to start on medication (for the first time since diagnosed in 2010) for it. It has been great so far: I sleep better, I feel better, I have a bit more energy, and I’m a bit less lethargic as a result.

So, why this blog post about physical and mental deteriorating health? Well – I’ve been tinkering with a project, technically two, about my health issues for a while now, and as I – hopefully – blog more about said project, it only makes sense that you, the reader, know the reasons behind it.

The photo above is from a test-shoot for the project, which as of right now is still untitled. The project itself consists of a photo book and a short film about living with and dealing with physical and mental “invisible illness” – what they are, and how they affect and effect me and my day-to-day life.

I’m very excited to finally have a smidge of creativity again after months, years even, of draught in that department.

The Bitch is back, y’all.

Hvis Lyset Tar Oss (video)

This is the video I used in the application to Høstutstillingen 2017. The music is by Heiinghund, and used with the artist’s permission.

Now all I can do is wait, and hope the panel of judges like my work.

Høstutstillingen 2017

Here in Norway, we have a thing called Høstutstillingen – an open call to all artists (art education not needed) to apply for an exhibition slot. In a fit of insanity, I decided to apply for said exhibition slot with my Hvis Lyset Tar Oss project, after it was suggested by a friend.

I whipped together a quick vlog of the editing of the extended cut. All of the videoclips in the vlog are filmed with my iPhone 6S+ & the 8mm app. I quite like the effect of that app.

Sketchbook #001

For the first time in what seems like forever, I completed a sketchbook – so I decided to share it with you all.

Note: The sketchbook also features art from and/or references to other artists which I have linked in the description box, but I will also link here – for your convenience:
